Knights of the Round Table!!

This year all of the boys had the opportunity to attend Day Camp! The theme was Knights of the Round Table! They had 3 days packed with all kinds of fun stuff to do!

Corbin is going to tell you about all of the things they did.

Every morning we would check into our group and then head to "Camelot" for opening ceremonies and flag raising.

The first day we met our group members and leaders. And then we got started on our activities!

My favorite activities were BB Guns and Archery. I was pretty good at BB Guns but not so good at Archery. We got to decorate shields in Art! Everyone made really cool designs.

In first aide we learned the Heimlich Maneuver, treatment for shock, CPR and what needs to be in a first aide kit.

In Science we made Dragon Drool! It was really cool! It was a mix of green food coloring, cornstarch and water.

When we went fishing I baited my line, learned to cast and tried to catch a fish. I accidentally cast over others lines a few times too. It was really fun I had a great time. We learned the rules and regulations of fishing in Arizona.

We went on a hike...we spotted trees, scout forts, plants.

At lunch one day there was an awesome water balloon catapult and we tried to catch the water balloons!

I had a lot of fun and it was cool to hang out with all my friends before we moved away! I miss you all but we are having a good time in Washington!

April 28th ~ I went on a hike…

and on that hike I took…a tent, a pizza, a teddy bear, water, a sleeping bag, jewelry, a wolf, a bear, cookies, Brick’s underwear, a TV, a quad, a jeep, a bowling alley, shoes, dead people, every video game system available AND my family!

In January there was a Winterfest in Flagstaff. All the boys that attended received a patch!

So we had a small turnout for pack meeting this time but the boys had a good time playing “Animal Tag” and I went on a hike and took…and singing songs and receiving their patches! And of course eating watermelon too!

April 7th, 2009 ~ Geology Belt Loop

Tuesday we had a small group but we had a lot of fun!

We had a new Wolf join our group! This was Jesse Staddon’s first den meeting! We are excited to have him!

The boys earned their Geology Belt Loop and with the time we had left they finished their Achievement 1! So we had a very productive hour!

It was a nice evening so we decided to take it outside!

The boys learned about types of rocks and how they are formed and the difference between a rock and a mineral. And of course they learned what Geology is.

After taking in all that knowledge they needed to burn off some energy! Achievement 1 was the perfect way to do that! With front rolls, back rolls, falling forward rolls, jumping as high as they can, elephant walking, frog leaping, crab walking, walking a line and doing a frog stand you would have thought they’d be tired out…not a chance! They finished off the evening with follow the leader and freeze tag!

It was a fun evening! We missed the boys who didn’t make it!

March 28th, 2009 ~ Agua Fria Ward Pinewood Derby!!

First off another change to our Pack! Charlie Young was called to be our Cubmaster! So the Pinewood Derby was his first official Pack Meeting!

We all gathered over at the Ruth St. Building in Prescott for weigh-ins and registration! We also had two new Cub Scouts join us for the first time! Ronnie Latini just turned 8 and joined the Wolves and Tyler Miller 9, joined the Bears! We are excited to have them in our Pack!

The kids all got a little antsy in that small room so Stuart joined them in a game of Duck, Duck, Goose! to pass the time!

Brother Young opened the Derby with a few facts about the start of the Pinewood Derby. The kids thought it was pretty cool that boys have been doing derbies since 1953!’

Soon enough all the cars were weighed-in and we were off too the races!

It so exciting for each of the boys when they get to put their cars up on the track!

And watching the cars zoom down the track captivates the whole audience!

Watching them cross the finish line and hearing the crowd cheer!!

All of the boys had a great time! They all got a special award that pertained to the design of their car awarded by Bishop Dalton!
The standings were as follows:

We want to congratulate all the boys on a job well done! And thank you all for showing good sportsmanship! We also want to thank everyone who help out and made the night fun for all the boys!

March 2009 ~ 3rd, 12th & 17th…

March was spent educating and preparing the boys for the Pinewood Derby!

March 3rd ~ we had a meeting for both the Cub Scouts and their parents. Stayce Peterson taught everyone a little about car design and what kinds of designs work well for aerodynamics. She stressed the importance of letting the boys do as much as possible when making the cars and that it is a learning experience for the boys and it is meant to be a father and son or family project.

The boys were then given paper to draw out their designs so they would be ready to start cutting them out and building them!

March 12th ~ Stuart Rhohrbough gave the boys pointers on building theirs cars. Showing them how to sand the axles and wheels, how to get a nice shiny finish on your car and what kinds of sand paper to use for each of the different parts.

Then the boys who needed the help and had no tools at home were able to cut out their cars with help from the leaders.

March 17th ~ Was Spring Break so the boys and the leaders got a week off!
Pinewood Derby is just around the corner though!

February 27th, 2009 ~ Blue & Gold Banquet!

Decorations! Desserts! Dinner! Throw in some popcorn, games, a program and lots of cub scouts and their families and what do you have?!

The annual Blue & Gold Banquet!!

The boys put on a short program about the Four Freedoms that Norman Rockwell painted. The boys did a great job reciting their parts!

Rockwell's inspiration for the series was the Four Freedoms speech given before Congress by Franklin Delano Roosevelt on January 16, 1941.

The relevant Four Freedoms portion of the speech is reproduced below.

In the future days which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms.

The first is freedom of speech and expression -- everywhere in the world.

The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way -- everywhere in the world.

The third is freedom from want, which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants -- everywhere in the world.

So it was a big night for achievements! Great job boys for all the hard work!!

Now it’s time to get down to the games! Winner gets a jar of blue & gold M&M’s!!

Everyone played a giant game of Musical Chairs! Each time several chairs would be taken out so the game didn’t go on all night long!

Bishop Dalton got in on the fun of course!

We had a few squatters trying to make sure they got a seat!

And a few little ones needing some help!

We’re getting closer to the end!!

It finally came down to sisters! Brittney and Emily Wagner! And Emily takes it!

The last game of the night was a Balloon Sweep! Boys Vs. Girls! It was funny watching the different techniques! the girls used small sweeps like you would to clean the floor! The boys! They were all over the place! whacking it and it flying all over the place! It was very entertaining!

February 10th, 2009 ~ Ice Skating!!

Tonight we took the Cub Scouts Ice Skating!

It was a lot of fun! Some of the boys just took off like they had been doing it forever! And others spent the evening clinging to the walls! But all in all they all had fun!

Right off, Brick fell and hit is face on the ice… :/ He made 4 laps around the rink, on the wall, and then went home. He had a pretty good sized bump on his cheek and a bruise.

There were plenty of spills on the ice…no serious injuries though. David Carpenter managed to fall and hit his head twice! The second time he actually slid on it and scraped up his face. :/ But as soon as he was patched up he was right back on the ice!

Each of the boys earned their Ice Skating belt loops for all their hard work and perseverance! They all did great!

January 27th, 2009 ~ Space Derby!!

It was a little rough going but fun none the less! All of the boys sanded down, painted up and decorated their space ships and came ready to go!

There was a Steelers, a Cardinals, an Alien Catcher, a Space Shuttle and lots of other neat ones!

We had some technical difficulties…with broken rubber bands and brackets not staying together to hold the space ships on. But there were still some great races and lots of fun to be had!

And the final race! Steelers vs. Cardinals!

And the Steelers won!!

Lots of changes to start out the new year!

We have new den leaders all around!

Tim Davis was called as the Webelos Assistant Den Leader! Stayce Peterson and Stephanie Davis were called as the Bears Den Leader and Assistant Den Leader! Brandy Young was called as the Wolves Den Leader!

The wolves had a month full of games! We worked on the games section in the electives.

They played a game of bean bag toss!

They also played a ring toss game!

Then they learned a new game…Eagle Golf!

Last they played a game of Operation!

The Wolves, Bears and Webelos took a trip to the Prescott Valley Police Department. Corbin and Seth took their cameras along...I love to see what come out of their cameras when they take them! :)

December 17, 2008 ~ Gingerbread (Graham Cracker) Houses!The most recent den meeting...sorta pack meeting since the Webelos joined in too was making Gingerbread houses! The boys all brought their choice of candy to decorate with. They all shared their spoils and were set free to let the creative mind go to work! All of the boys did a great job! It was fun to see all of the unique designs everyone came up with!

The last post on here was about the September Pack Meeting...

Time sure got away from me! I can't even recall going to the October and November Pack Meetings and the December Pack Meeting was canceled...So I will depend on the pictures to tell the story and remind me of what has gone on for the last 3 months!

October ~ Okay so apparently nothing interesting happened in October...I think I remember the Pack Meeting being canceled. And we also had a Ward Party and Halloween.

November ~ Seth Young joined the Wolves and was a little apprehensive...so I tagged along for one of the den meetings...And I am pretty sure there wasn't a Pack Meeting, if I am mistaken let me know! :)

The boys made Bagel, Bird Feeders and Granola Mix!

To make the bird feeders each of the boys got to smear peanut butter all over a mini bagel...and their hands...and then roll the bagel in bird seed. I think more peanut butter ended up on their hands than the bagels...but who's counting.

For the Granola Mix each of the boys got to measure out an ingredient for the mix and pour it in. The Granola Mix was very yummy!

Akela ~ Pack Meeting ~ September 24, 2008

This month the boys were to learn about animals and bring a poster with the animal and tell what they learned about it. I think a lot of the boys forgot to tell their parents about that part! :)

Noah told us a little about Cats.

Brick talked about Comodo Dragons.

Mac talked about Gorillas.

Brother Shumway talked to the boys about Akela. They learned who Akela is and who can be Akela. He told them about respecting and following Akela.

That was followed by a game of "Akela May I?" Each of the boys had to take their steps in fun ways such as softball throw, elephant walk, crab walk, tiger walk, robot walk and a spin around step too!

Next we were treated to the 11 year old scouts singing "Called to Serve".

The last game of the evening was "Akela Says". The last few kids in the game were not giving up easily and kept it going until Brother Shumway congratulate them all and ended the game!

Ethan recieves his Bobcat and gets the flip! Sister Stine starts a new trend in mom pinning!

All of the boys who attended Day Camp get their belt loops!
And everyone who attended their cub scout activities over the summer received National Summer Time Award Pins!

Brick earned his Religious Emblem for completing all of his Cub Scout requirements for the Faith in God award.

The boys got to build toolboxes and bookshelves for their weekly gathering!

Day Camp! August 23, 2008

Last Saturday the boys got to go to Day Camp. They were unable to attend the district day camp earlier this year. So the Prescott Valley Wards decided to hold their own!

They had a long day with many activities and lots of belt loops earned.
They earned their Football, Baseball, Chess, Art, Maps and Compasses loops. And at the end of the day they had a water balloon fight and Bishop Dalton and Bishop Lau soaked the boys with super soakers.

At the Art table the boys learned about lines and shapes, perspective and size.
They used play dough to show how colors mix and make different colors. And they each painted a water color picture.

At the Maps and Compass table they were shown how to locate places on a map and a globe, how to draw maps, and how to use a compass.

They learned the rules of baseball, how to run the bases, how to catch and throw a ball, how to stop a ground ball, how to hit the ball off a T and played each other in a short game.

They learned the rules of chess, what each piece is called and what moves they make and basic strategy. Then they paired up and played each other.

They learned the rules of football and how to pass and catch. Followed by a game of tag football!

After all the activities the boys gathered for instructions on what was next and a short skit and song. Sister Ellis read a story while some of the men and all the boys added the sound effects. The boys got a kick out of it and everyone enjoyed it!

Following the skit everyone got up and danced and sang to "Mother Gooneybird"! Definitely a crowd pleaser! Everyone gets into the fun when they sing that!

Then it was a mad dash to the soccer field for some good soaking and splashing in the water balloon fight/capture the flag! They broke up into teams and it was on!

Although I think the bishops had the most fun!

Thank you to everyone who helped out and made this day a great one for all the Cub Scouts! :)

Raingutter Regatta! Pack Meeting ~ July 29, 2008

This month's Pack Meeting the boys made boats for the Raingutter Regatta!
All of the boys did a great job fixing up their boats!
Everyone had a great time and all of the boys showed great sportsmanship!

Physical Fitness! 6/24/08

This month's pack meeting was all about Physical Fitness and working on bettering 5 out of 7 activities.

They could choose from:
50 Yard Dash
Pull-ups
Sit-ups w/ 1 minutes time limit
Push-ups
V-sit
Softball Throw
Standing Long Jump

Each of the boys tried at least 5 of the 7 or all of them if they wanted to.
Brothers and sisters were also invited to join in!

Levi earned his Bobcat and received his patch and pinned his mom!

Thanks go out to Marcus and Austin S. for being Denner and Assistant Denner for the months of May and June.

And we welcome Taylor and Corbin as the new Denner and Assistant Denner.

Magic! April Pack Meeting ~ 05.07.08

April's theme was Magic! The boys spent the month learning about Magic Tricks and practicing up to share them with everyone at the pack meeting.

Levi and Corbin went to the District Pinewood Derby in Prescott on Saturday, April 26th. Levi represented the Wolves and Corbin represented the Bears! It was a long day! And everyone had a great time!

The wolves had their races right after the bears so I was glad I could be there to get som e pictures of Levi for his mom and to post here.

Great job, Levi!
He received a certificate of participation!

Corbin made it through the first round with only one loss. He placed 6th overall in the Bears group.

Auga Fria Ward Pinewood Derby!

Agua Fria Ward held their Pinewood Derby Saturday, April 19, 2008! It was fun for all! There were 13 boys in all with 13 cars all ready to race to the finish!

First off was the weighing and check in.

This is very serious business!

Bro. ? talking to everyone about racing. He told us his dad has been to Daytona every year for the last 54 years! He related with the kids by talking about "Cars". His dad saw the real "Doc Hudson" race!

Blue & Gold Banquet

Tuesday night was the Blue & Gold Banquet and it was a great evening for all the cub scouts and their families. The tables were decorated with cute goldfish bowls and fishing lures.

Brother Glen Stilson gave a nice history of the scouting program and its humble roots.
Brother Stein and son showed us their acting talents in a small re-enactment of how scouting started in the US.

Sir Robert Baden Powell was the founder of the Boy Scout program.

Today there are 50,000,000 scouts world wide.

There was dinner and conversation and the usual racket of rowdy kids chasing each other around the cultural hall.

Embry Riddle Academy

The boys went on a field trip to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott.
They had a great time learning about airplanes and even saw a flight simulator!

First Pack Meeting

We had our first big pack meeting since the ward change. On August 22nd, our scouts and their families gathered at Goldwater Lake in Prescott for some crawdad fishing. Everyone had a great time and all the kids caught LOTS of crawdads! We cooked them up on the spot and ate while scouting awards were presented. Thanks to everyone who came and participated and please remember to keep the scouting spirit strong! If you have anymore pictures from this event, please get them to me so I can add them.

Our meager beginnings soon grew to a whole bucket full!
